FROM Rural Action Derbyshire:

Phasing out the installation of fossil fuel heating in homes off the gas grid – Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy

This government consultation sets out proposals to phase out the installation of high carbon fossil fuel heating systems in homes off the gas grid, as committed to in the 2017 Clean Growth Strategy.Government are seeking views on their proposals to introduce targeted regulations that will drive decarbonisation of heat in off gas grid homes, including
:an end to new fossil fuel heating installations in homes off the gas grid from 2026
: a ‘heat pump first’ approach to replacement heating systems in homes off the gas grid from 2026
: requiring high performing replacement heating systems where heat pumps cannot reasonably practicably be installed

They would like views from the heating industry, consumers, and those with a wider interest in the UK’s net zero ambition. This consultation closes on 12 January 2022.

It is also worth looking at the proposed costs in the document linked here: Impact Assessment template (publishing.service.gov.uk) particularly pages 21, 27 (particularly Table 12), 28 & 29.

These proposals will affect most residents in the local area.
The BBC Countryfile episode broadcast on Sunday 9th January 2022 covered the issues of increasing energy costs and what affordable, viable and efficient renewable options may be available to rural homes, especially those off the mains gas grid.

If you missed it, you can watch on ‘catch up’ via the BBC iPlayer. It’s about 12-13 minutes in from the start.

Please contact RURAL ACTION DERBYSHIRE If you are willing to speak to the media about their own experiences living off the mains gas grid. If you would be happy to speak up in print (including digital), radio or television please let me know. You don’t need to commit yourself to anything, but it would be really helpful to be able to get across the issues.
