Police in Bakewell will be teaming up to host a local event in a bid to boost security and tackle crime in rural areas.
Officers from Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team will be hosting a Farm Watch event at the Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell on Monday, March 2 from 8.30am.
The event is aimed at raising awareness of the Farm Watch scheme and encouraging farmers and rural residents to increase security in a bid to protect themselves from crime.
During the event, Safer Neighbourhood officers will be on hand to chat to residents about the steps that they can take to further protect themselves and their property from being targeted by thieves. The team will also be offering discounted security products for residents to boost home and farm security, including shed alarms and security marking kits.
Horse owners will also be able to sign up to the dedicated Horse Watch scheme and will receive a free membership pack containing advice and guidance to help prevent and detect equine crime.
PCSO Hayley Grundy from the Bakewell team said: “The pioneering Farm Watch and Horse Watch projects allow people to sign up and receive messages around crime prevention tips and witness appeals to help with police inquiries.
“The team and I will be around throughout the morning to help sign farmers and rural residents up to the scheme, along with answering any queries that they may have around home security.
“I hope to see many new faces at the event on Monday, so if you are around then come and say hello.”
Farm Watch is a free service led by police and partner agencies including Derbyshire Dales and High Peak local authorities, Derbyshire County Council and the National Farmers Union. People who are not already in the scheme will be able to sign up and will receive a free Farm Watch pack.
